The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to end the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities .


ASUU has reached a conclusion with FG's 2009 renegotiation agreement committee led by Prof Nimi Briggs. The agreement on better conditions of service and other demands for varsity lecturers have been tabled to FG. All that needs to be done by FG now is just to sign and implement. The President of Asuu, Professor Osodeke will address the media this weekend. There are good developments.

 

ASUU wants implementation before Suspension. Once FG signs and implement the new agreement, strike will be called off immediately. The Minister of Labour who handled this process of negotiation stalled the process. Await the union President speech this week.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to end the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other university-based unions.

The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, made the call in his contributions to the report of the Director-General, International Labour Organisation, during the 110th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The conference which opened on Tuesday has the theme, “Social justice, decent work.”

According to Wabba, the NLC has written to the Federal Government on how to end the university workers’ strike.
